What is Nordlux Smart Light and how does it work?

Nordlux Smart Light is a comfortable and flexible solution to easily set your lights according to your needs and situations. Smart Light enables you to set the right light for every occasion, from a cozy, relaxing atmosphere to a functional, activating illumination. As shown on the picture, the Smart Light products are controlled with the Nordlux Smart Light app via Bluetooth Mesh without the need of an internet connection. By adding the Nordlux Smart Light Bridge you can expand the features and functionalities of the Smart Light system, including for example voice control (Amazon Alexa or Google Home) and control of the light from anywhere.
 

What does the Nordlux Smart Light range consist of?

The Smart Light assortment consists of three bulbs with a traditional E27 socket, one GU10 bulb and a bridge. Two of the bulbs can be changed in both light temperature (Kelvin) and brightness (Lumen), whereas the other two only can be adjusted in light brightness (Lumen). As the Smart Light product range consists of the most popular LED bulbs and sockets, you can easily replace your traditional bulbs with Smart Light bulbs.
 

How do I get started with Nordlux Smart Light?

Nordlux Smart Light is incredibly easy to get started with. Follow these easy steps:

1. Install the Nordlux Smart Light App in App Store or Google Play. Search for 'Nordlux Smart Light'
2. Enable Bluetooth on your mobile or tablet
3. Install your Smart Light product in the app

You are now ready to control your Smart Light products in the app.
 

Memory function

All the Smart Light products have memory functions, meaning that if you turn the light off, the product will automatically remember the latest setting and the light turns on in the same light setting as it was turned off. .
 

What does the Bluetooth icon at the home page mean?

The Bluetooth icon shows the connection status. If the icon is red, the app is not connected to Bluetooth, and you cannot control your smart products. If the icon is white, the app is connected to Bluetooth and you can now control the product via the Smart Light App. If the icon is red and does not reconnect automatically, please click on it to connect the app to Bluetooth and to your product. Remember to turn on Bluetooth in settings on your phone or tablet.
 

What is the maximum distance, which I can control the Smart Light products from?

For outdoor applications, the maximum range is between 50 and 100m depending on the place and the surrounding of the installation. Indoors, the maximum range is usually between 12 and 15m.
 

Can the Smart Light bulbs be used outdoors as well?

Yes, our smart bulbs can also be used outdoors, as they have been developed for an operational humidity between 5% and 90% and an operational temperature between -20°C to 25°C..
 

How much frost can the Nordlux Smart Light bulbs take?

 

How many Smart Light products can I connect and control?

You can connect and control a maximum of 50 products in the app..
 

Which Smart Home systems is Nordlux Smart Light compatible with?

In order to give you the best experience possible, Nordlux Smart Light is compatible with the well-known Smart Home systems; Google Home and Amazon Alexa. This means, that Nordlux smart products are not compatible with other Smart Light and Smart Home manufacturers. However, you can control several smart products from different manufacturers through the compatible Smart Home systems (Google Home & Amazon Alexa), but not through the Nordlux Smart Light app. You need our Nordlux Smart Light Bridge to in order to connected to the Smart Home systems.
 

Troubleshooting

How do I reset a Smart Light product to factory settings via a switch?

1. Turn the switch off for 1-2 sec.
2. Turn it on for 1-2 sec.
3. Turn it off for 1-2 sec.
4. Turn it on for 1-2 sec.
5. Turn it off for 1-2 sec.
6. Turn if on.

The Smart Light product will start flashing and is reset successfully.
 

Why can’t I pair or control the Smart Light product?

Please make sure that the smart product is switched on and remember to turn on Bluetooth on your phone. Normally, you turn on Bluetooth under settings on your mobile or tablet.
 

Fail during the connection process of the Smart Light product

There can be several reasons why the connection failed. You may be too far away from the product, a mistake happened within the Bluetooth Mesh network or that Bluetooth isn’t turned on. Please be sure that the Bluetooth connection is on and that you are close to the product when it is connecting – the most stable connecting distance is max. 8m.
 

Why can’t I change the brightness or temperature of the Smart Light product?

There can be more reasons for this. Maybe you don’t have connection to the Bluetooth Mesh Network, the product is offline or there isn’t a product in the room/group. Furthermore, please remember, that some of the Smart Light products only can be adjusted in brightness (Lumen) and not in light temperature (Kelvin).
 

Why can’t I set a timer under ´Program’ in the menu?

You must set the timer on the individual product or room/group*. Click on ‘program’ associated to the Smart Light product or group/room you want and select timer. When you have created a timer, it will occur under ‘Program’ in the menu.

You must set the schedule on the individual Smart Light product or group/room*. Click on ‘program’ associated to the product or group/room you want and select schedule. When you have created a schedule, it will occur under ‘Program’ in the menu.

Why can’t I connect my Smart Light Bridge to Wi-Fi and the app?

Please ensure, that your Wi-Fi works properly in the house. Otherwise, restart either your Wi-Fi or your Nordlux Smart Light Bridge. Nordlux Smart Light Bridge fits 2.4GHz Wi-Fi.
 

Why did the update of my Smart Light product fail?

Please check the internet connection of your device or keep the phone closer to the Smart Light product you wish to update.
 

Why can't I connect to my Nordlux Smart Light Bridge?

The reason why you cannot connect to your Nordlux Smart Light Bridge might be, that you already have connected your Smart Light Bridge. Therefore, you must reset it and connect it again. To reset your Smart Light Bridge, press the reset button three times with a 2 second interval. The indicator light flashes, and your Smart Light Bridge is reset. Make sure that the bridge is powered.

How do I add a new Smart Light product to the app?

Click on the small + in the right corner of the app and select 'Products'. The Smart Light App is now searching for new products. It is important that you keep your mobile or tablet close to your Smart Light product during this process. The Smart Light product will now appear on your screen, click on it and press continue. Your Smart Light product is now installed
 

Do I always have to use the Smart Light App?

The app is your main instrument to control the light, however you can always turn the light on and off from your regular switch. You can set the timer, schedule your light or use voice control*, so that you don’t have to use the Smart Light App for all daily activities. .

Do I need to create an account?

No, not necessarily. You can use the basic features in the Smart Light App without creating an account. However, if you want extra features such as voice control and sharing of settings you must install the Smart Light Bridge, which requires the creation of an account. You can create a user with your email, Facebook or Google account. Remember to say 'yes’ to newsletters, as you will receive tips and tricks for using your Smart Light products here. The usage of all features is free, so there are no initial or monthly costs.

How do I change the language in the Smart Light App?

The app automatically uses the language of your phone. If you wish to change the language, click on ‘settings’ in the menu and then on ‘language’.
 

How do I create a room in the Smart Light App?

Click on the + in the right corner of the app and select 'Room'. Select the room you would like to create and name it. You can now place your Smart Light products in this room.
 

How many rooms can I create in the Smart Light App?

You can create a maximum of 9 rooms in the app.
 

How do I create a group in the Smart Light App?

Click on the + in the right corner of the app and select 'Group'. Name the group and choose which room you will place the group. You can now place your Smart Light products in this group.
 

How many groups can I create?

Every room can consist of maximum 15 groups. You cannot create groups in ‘My Home’, but only within each room.
 

Is it possible to move my Smart Light products to different groups?

Yes, but the groups should be in the same room.
 

Can I place my Smart Light products in different rooms?

Yes, you can have Smart Light products in all rooms in your home. However, one product can only be placed in one room at a time. Therefore, you have the opportunity to create groups within a room where you can place a product in several groups in the same room.
 

How do I delete a Smart Light product in the Smart Light App?

Find the Smart Light product you would like to delete under ‘My Home’, click on ‘setting’ for the specific product and ‘delete light’. The product will start flashing and is deleted successfully.
If you wish to delete a smart product in a specific room, please find the product in the respective room, click on ‘setting’ and ‘delete light’. The Smart Light product is now deleted in the room, however you can still find the it in ‘My Home’.

How do I turn all Smart Light products on/off in the home at the same time?

Click on the ‘My Home’ icon and all lights will be turned on/off.
 

What is ‘My Home’?

In ‘My Home’ you can find all the Smart Light products you have added, and you can control all lights in the home from this page. If you delete ‘My Home’ all Smart Light products in your home will be deleted.
 

What is ‘Moods’?

Moods are pre-installed scenes, including night light, relax, read, active and focus. Click on a mood and the product will light up with the pre-installed light temperature (Kelvin) and brightness (Lumen) for the respective mood. You can also easily create a new mood yourself under ‘Moods’ for each product or for a room/group.
 

How many moods can I create?

In total, you can have 10 moods in the Smart Light App.
 

Can I edit a mood?

Yes, you can edit the new moods you have created yourself. You can also edit the brightness and light temperature of the pre-installed mood, but it is not possible to edit the name, icon or delete pre-installed moods.
 

What is ‘Program’?

Program is where you find the timer, schedule and vacation mode* functions, which makes it easy for you to adjust the light to your daily activities. Below you can see what the timer, schedule and vacation mode can do for you.

What is ‘Timer’?

With this feature you can program you lights to solely be turned on/off for a specific time period. To exemplify, you can use the timer function at bedtime, where you set the light to turn off after 10 minutes, when the children must sleep. If you don’t have the Smart Light Bridge, the timer only works with an individual product and you can only turn the light on and off. Conversely, if you have the Smart Light Bridge you can use the timer function for whole rooms and groups and furthermore you can turn the product on in a specific mood. You can set one timer at a time with both Bluetooth and Nordlux Smart Light Bridge.
 

What is ‘Schedule’?

With this feature you can program your lights to turn on and off at a specific time and day. To exemplify you can schedule your Smart Light products to turn on every day at 6:00 in the morning. If you don’t have the Nordlux Smart Light Bridge, you can only schedule individual products to turn on and off. If you have the Smart Light Bridge you can schedule rooms or groups and furthermore you can turn the products on in a specific mood. With Bluetooth, you can set one schedule at a time, while with the Nordlux Smart Light Bridge you can set as many as you want.

What is ‘Vacation mode’?

Vacation mode makes you feel safer when you are away from you home for several days and can be used to e.g. prevent burglary. When the vacation mode is turned on, the Smart Light products will randomly turn on and off from 6PM to 6AM to simulate that someone is home. The Nordlux Smart Light Bridge is required for this function.
 

How do I share settings with others?

Nordlux Smart Light Bridge is required for this feature. In order to share the settings with guests or family you must click on ‘Sharing’ in the Menu. A QR-code will be created which the guest or family member must scan in his/her Smart Light App. The guest or family member is now able to control your smart products. You select for how long time the guest/family member should have access to your Smart Light system.
 

Why should I allow the Smart Light App to use the camera?

When you are invited to control the smart products from a friend or family member you need to scan a QR-code and for that, the app needs access to your camera.
 

How do I update my Smart Light products?

The firmware update of your products does not require a Nordlux Smart Light Bridge, however, you have to register an account in the Nordlux Smart Light app. When your products must be updated a small red dot will occur at ‘firmware update’ in the menu. Click on this and choose the products you will update.
 

Voice control

Nordlux Smart Light is compatible with Google Assistant and Amazon Alexa, which means, that you can easily control your products with your voice. Click on "voice control" in the menu and connect to Google Assistant or Amazon Alexa. Press "start" and begin the connection process. Now, follow the instructions on your device.

What is Nordlux Smart Light Bridge?

The Smart Light Bridge provides you extra features and functionalities to the Smart Light system including voice control, presence simulation, schedules and programs, sharing of settings and control of the light from anywhere.
 

How do I install my Smart Light Bridge?

The Smart Light Bridge works with your Wi-Fi, and therefore you must create an account in the app in order to use the functionalities the Bridge provides. The account is free.

Be sure that the Smart Light Bridge is powered. Click on the + in the right corner of the app and select 'Products'. The Smart Light App is now searching for new products. It is important that you keep your mobile or tablet close to The Smart Light Bridge during this process. The Smart Light Bridge will now appear on your screen, click on it and press ‘continue’. Your Smart Light Bridge is now installed.
 

How do I reset my Smart Light Bridge?
