What is Nordlux Smart and how does it work?


Nordlux Smart is a comfortable and flexible solution to easily set your lights according to your needs and situations. Nordlux Smart bubs enables you to set the right light for every occasion, from a cozy, relaxing atmosphere to a functional, activating illumination. As shown on the picture, the Nordlux Smart products are controlled with the Nordlux Smart app via Bluetooth Mesh without the need of an internet connection. By adding the Nordlux Smart Bridge you can expand the features and functionalities of the smart system, including for example voice control (Amazon Alexa or Google Home) and control of the light from anywhere.


Can the Nordlux Smart bulbs be used outdoors?


Yes, our smart bulbs can also be used outdoors, as they have been developed for an operational humidity between 5% and 90% and an operational temperature between -20°C to 25°C.


How many smart products can I connect and control?


You can connect and control a maximum of 50 products per Bridge in the Nordlux Smart app.


Which Smart Home systems is Nordlux compatible with?


Nordlux Smart is compatible with the well-known Smart Home systems Google Home and Amazon Alexa*. Unfortunately, Nordlux Smart products are not compatible with products from other Smart Light and Smart Home manufacturers. However, you can control several smart products from different manufacturers through the compatible Smart Home systems (Google Home & Amazon Alexa), but not through the Nordlux Smart app. When using Google Home, you don’t need to log in with your Google Home e-mail, you need to create a user with another e-mail in the Nordlux Smart app. *A Nordlux Smart Bridge is required.


How do I add a bulb to one or more groups? How do I delete a bulb from a group?


Choose the room in which you want to create the “group”. Press and hold the bulbs you want to group together. If you want to delete a bulb from the group, select the group, tap “devices” and delete the relevant bulbs.


How do I add a bulb to a room or move it from one room to another? How do I delete a bulb from a room?


Press and hold the product you want to move to a room (you can choose several devices to move at the same time) and press “Change room”.

For an overview of all your products and rooms, go to “settings”, “manage home” and choose your desired home. Choose “manage rooms” and find an overview of all your rooms. By choosing a room you can easily delete or add more products to the room.


Why can’t I find my devices during “scanning”?


You need to allow the app to use your Bluetooth connection and your location. Make sure that these permissions are granted in your phone settings. Please note that the app only uses location sharing to activate your Bluetooth connection.


How do I reset a Nordlux Smart product to factory settings via the switch?


If you want to reset a bulb or a lamp, turn the light on/off three times with an interval of 1–2 seconds. If you want to reset a remote control, a sensor or a Bridge, press the setup button 7 times consecutively. The device will flash when the reset is complete.

To reset the Smart Plug, press and hold the button for 5 seconds.


Why does the connection to my smart products fail?


There can be several reasons as to why the connection failed. You may be too far away from the product, a mistake happened within the Bluetooth Mesh network or the Bluetooth is off. Please be sure that the Bluetooth connection is on and that you are close to the product when it is connecting – the most stable connecting distance is max. 8m.


 

Why did the update of my Nordlux Smart product fail?


Please check the internet connection on your device or keep the phone closer to the smart product you wish to update.


Why can I not connect to my Nordlux Smart Bridge?


If you can’t connect to your Nordlux Smart Bridge, it might be because:

- You are too far away from the Bridge
- The Bridge is not connected to the same GHz as the router
- You have entered the wrong password for the Wi-Fi network
- Your phone is not connected to the same Wi-Fi network as the Bridge
- You are not logged into your Smart account


Do I need to create an account?


No, not necessarily. You can use basic features in the Nordlux Smart App without creating an account. However, if you want extra features such as voice control and to share settings then you must install the Smart Bridge, which requires you to create an account. Remember to say “yes” to newsletters, as you will receive tips and tricks for using your smart products. All features can be used for free, so there are no initial or monthly costs.


How do I change the language in the Nordlux Smart App?


The app automatically uses the language of your phone. If you wish to change the language, click on “settings”, then “settings” again and then “language”.


 

Can I place my Nordlux Smart products in different rooms?


Yes, you can have Nordlux Smart products in all rooms in your home. However, one product can only be placed in one room at a time. Therefore, you have the opportunity to create groups within a room where you can place a product in several groups in the same room.


How do I delete a smart product in the Nordlux Smart App?


Find the smart product you would like to delete, press and hold and then choose “delete device”. The light will start flashing when the device has been deleted successfully.


How do I turn all Nordlux Smart products on/off in the home at the same time?


Click on the ‘My Home’ icon and all lights will be turned on/off.


What is "My Home"?


In “My Home” you can find all the Nordlux Smart products you have added, and you can control all lights in the home from this page.


Can I edit a mood?


Yes, you can edit the new moods you have created yourself. You can also edit the brightness and light temperature of the pre-installed mood, but it is not possible to edit the name, icon or delete pre-installed moods.


What is “Customise”?


The “Customise” tab lets you set up “scenarios” and “automations”*. These allow you to adjust the light to your daily activities.

 

*The Nordlux Smart Bridge is required.


What are “Scenarios”?


With this feature you can program you lights to solely be turned on/off for a specific time period. To exemplify, you can use the timer function at bedtime, where you set the light to turn off after 10 minutes, when the children must sleep. If you don’t have the Nordlux Smart Bridge, the timer only works with an individual product and you can only turn the light on and off. Conversely, if you have the Nordlux Smart Bridge you can use the timer function for whole rooms and groups and furthermore you can turn the product on in a specific mood. You can set one timer at a time with both Bluetooth and Nordlux Smart Bridge. You should install the timer for the individual product or room/group*. Choose the relevant product or room/group, click on "program" and choose "timer". When you have set up a timer, you can see it under "program" in the menu.

What are “Automations”??


Setting “automations”* allows you to set your devices to turn off, turn on or to a certain light setting. You can also choose when a scenario should be activated.
*A Nordlux Smart Bridge is required.


What is "Vacation mode"?


Vacation mode makes you feel safer when you are away from you home for several days and can be used to e.g. prevent burglary. When the vacation mode is turned on, the Nordlux Smart products will randomly turn on and off from 6PM to 6AM to simulate that someone is home. The Nordlux Smart Bridge is required for this function.


How do I update my Nordlux Smart products?


The firmware update of your products does not require a Nordlux Smart Bridge, but you will have to register an account in the Nordlux Smart app. A small cloud will appear next to the product when an update is required. You can also go to “settings” and “firmware update” to update multiple products at once.


How does "voice control" work?


Nordlux Smart is compatible with Amazon Alexa, Google Assistant and Siri, which means that you can easily control your Smart products with your voice. Click on “settings” in the menu in the Nordlux Smart app and choose your preferred third-party voice service (Alexa, Google Assistant or Siri). Now follow the instructions on your device to set up voice control.


Do I need to keep Bluetooth on when I control the lights through Alexa?


When you use the Alexa app or Amazon echo to control the lights, to avoid the influence of the local Bluetooth control, you could turn off the Bluetooth of the mobile phone for a better experience.


How can I find my Smart Home/voice control device in the Nordlux Smart app?

Why can I not log on to the Nordlux Smart app?


If you are experiencing any issues with logging in to your Nordlux Account on the Nordlux Smart app, there might be a “space” added at the end of the email. Simply remove the space, and you should be able to log in successfully.
If that not the case, then make sure you have confirmed your account by clicking the link in the confirmation email sent to you immediately after creating an account.
Otherwise try to reset your password or check if your able to create a new account with the same email to check if the account exists.


How can my family members and guests control the light from their phones?


If you have a Nordlux Smart Bridge, you can invite family members and guests to access the Smart app via the “Sharing” functionality. You can give your guests access to control the lights for a limited period, or you can share unlimited access with your family members. After you choose which rooms to control, the app will generate a QR Code. The family member or guest must open the app on their phone, press “Settings” and then open the scanner via the small symbol in the top right corner.


How do I reset my Nordlux Smart Bridge?


Press the reset button three times with a 2 second interval. The indicator light starts flashing, and the Nordlux Smart Bridge is reset successfully. It is important that the Nordlux Smart Bridge is powered.


How do I delete my Nordlux Smart Bridge via the Nordlux Smart App?


Click on ‘Bridge’ in the Menu and then ‘delete’. The indicator light starts flashing and the Nordlux Smart Bridge is deleted successfully. Your Nordlux Smart Bridge must be connected to the app when you delete it.


Why does my Nordlux Smart Bridge not connect to my Wi-Fi?


If you are experiencing any problems when connecting Nordlux Smart Bridge to your Wi-Fi or the Nordlux Smart App, here are some information that could help solve your problems.
Firstly, it is important that your Wi-Fi is working as it should. Try restarting your Wi-Fi router and/or your Nordlux Smart Bridge, and make sure your phone/tablet is updated. You can reset your bridge by pressing the reset button three times, with a 2 second interval. The indication lamp should then start blinking, and your bridge is now reset.

Secondly, it is important to note that the bridge works with 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi SSID (SSID is the name of your wireless internet). It should be exclusively 2.4 GHz, and not shared 2.4 /5 GHz. If it is 5 GHz or shared 2.4 /5 GHz, the bridge will not connect. You can check which Wi-Fi frequency you have through your phone or tablet, or by downloading an app which can do this (Ex. NetSpot – Wifi Analyzer).


Can I use my smartphone hotspot instead of a Wi-Fi router?


Here is a guide to how you can use your smartphone hotspot, instead of your Wi-Fi router:

1. Use smartphone A to be a hotspot, and then use another smartphone B to pair the Bluetooth Mesh network.
2. Find the Nordlux Smart bulb and add it into the app.
3. Find the Nordlux Smart Bridge and add it into the app via the hotspot signal, instead of the Wi-Fi router. You would need to open the Wi-Fi function, and connect it to the hotspot signal.

Two important things:
1. Smartphone A needs to have the hotspot on constantly, and it cannot be to far away from the bridge when connecting it.
2. The hotspot for smartphone A needs to be a 2.4 GHz signal, not 5 Ghz.


Can I dim the Nordlux Smart bulb with my regular wall dimmer?


 No, you can only turn the light on and off with your wall switch. You need to use the Nordlux Smart app or the Smart Remote control to dim the light.


Can I use the Nordlux Smart Colour bulb in all my lamps at home?


Yes, if the lamp has a retro fit socket, such as a GU10 or E27, you can use Nordlux Smart products. You only need a bulb and a smartphone or tablet to get going.
