During the last four decades, great light at good prices has been the mantra for the lighting company Nordlux Group, which at this very moment celebrates anniversary in a rain of international Design Awards.
A goal-oriented strategy to develop lighting articles with high quality to price-conscious customers on the global market is being rewarded with a range of international Design Awards for the Nordlux Group in the anniversary year. The company, which was established in 1977, has this year been rewarded with four Red Dot Awards and three iF Awards for range of its new lighting designs. This proves, that it is possible to create modern, Danish quality design at good prices.
The attractive international Design Awards are an approval of our vision about selling cool products at cool prices, Peter Terkelsen, CEO at Nordlux Group, says. He came to Nordlux in 2002 with an idea of increasing the export part and start cooperation with external designers. First man on board was the world-famous designer Jacob Jensen in 2005, and since then Nordlux has had innovative professional back-and-forth with a range of Danish designers – including Bønnelycke MDD, Bjørn + Balle, Seidenfaden Design, Carlo Volf and Holmbächnordentoft.
The Nordlux Group, which include the two brands Nordlux and Design For The People, is one of the leading suppliers of lighting, and Peter Terkelsen ́s second goal to expand the number of export markets also function as intended. More than half of the turnover come from sales without Denmark, and new countries keep on coming. At the moment, the Nordlux Group exports to 47 countries.
- One and a half year ago we entered the Chinese market, and we can already show black figures, Peter Terkelsen says. He has a plan of being one of the three biggest lighting suppliers to the European retail market within the next five to seven years.
- We experience significant growth every year, so the goal is absolutely realistic. Our volume is large which means that we can keep some reasonable and competitive prices without compromising on neither design nor up-front technology, Peter Terkelsen clarifies. He sees precisely product development and closer cooperation with good designers as a requisite for ongoing success.
The anniversary, which is extensively also a tribute to the folksy design vision, was started with an event for the Danish press and chosen bloggers in Kinfolk Gallery in Copenhagen on the 17th of May. Here a range of Nordlux ́ bestsellers and the latest design news from 2017 – including some of the award-winning lightings was showcased.
